Rekom was founded in 1998 by twenty municipal and inter-municipal waste companies, as well as the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Municipalities. Through out the years the number of shareholders has increased, and the company is now owned by 57 municipalities and inter-municipal companies.

The company was established to strengthen the regional and local municipalities negotiating with private waste management companies. The purpose was to negotiate larger agreements/contracts on behalf of several municipalities and inter-municipal waste companies.
Over the years, Rekom has established itself as a major player in the combined Norwegian-Swedish waste market for raw materials used in recycling and energy recovery. The company has always operated commercially and independent of the owners. Our operational principle is that a small commission on a large amount of waste is sufficient to ensure the company’s operations and development. Rekom manages about 200 small and large contracts, of which a third are acquired via public procurement competitions in Norway and Sweden.
